Electrified?

There's this problem I've been having.... I know I've always been a bit sparky, had a lot of energy and perhaps a bit hot. I have NEVER shocked myself more since moving to the North. Yep, it's dry up here--so that means there's static electricity like EVERYWHERE(apparently). As a kid I use to be sad because I could never drag my feet off the carpet and shock someone.. I guess I should have moved north then and there. I don't have to drag my feet on the carpet--I just have enough to shock myself.

I first discovered this at work. I was going to the bathroom, and touched the metal handle and like instant snap!pop! and CRACK! I thought to myself that's weird---but it happens EVERY TIME I PEE!!! and I don't know how to stop it!!!!

It's NOT even the work bathroom I have this problem... in my own house too!!! I go to turn off a light---and there it goes again... snap!pop!crack! with a blue spark that goes from my finger to the light switch... well that's more serious than a little jolt..isn't it?!

I asked my co-worker at work...about the bathroom...and she looked at me like I was crazy..so just left it at that.

I'm not sure WHAT to do..or if there is anything left to do about this situation? am I just going to be electrified and shocked on a daily basis while living in the north. It really makes me second guess if I'm going to pee at work--and makes me NEVER want to turn off a light...and we all know I have enough issues with 'moving in the darkness'!!!

(so I also made it possible to post comments without having user id---I just ask that if you do post using anonymously---PLEASE put your NAME in the text you type; or I'll turn this feature off again!!)

Polar Bears

Sitting in my morning coffee break I found out some useful tips about what to do IF you spot a Polar Bear while you are out and about....

* always point your elbow at the polar bear, that way it will EAT your elbow BEFORE it gets to your head

*Take someone slower with you; you don't need to out run the Polar Bear--just your companion!

*Carry a baseball bat with you on your hikes. So you can break your friend's legs--their screams will alert everyone that there is a polar bear spotting (oh and you can run away FAST!)..

My personal favourite came from my boss....
*Always stay on the left side of the polar bear---why you might ask? well apparently everyone knows that Polar Bears are RIGHT HANDED (or should I say pawed!)...

...I'm seriously GLAD that I'm not gullible! It was worth a laugh though!

In other news....

I don't have to worry about the little puppy RUNNING into my house anymore!!! His owners are tying him up now...tho he does BARK and WHINE quite a bit...so not sure which is worse... his happy greeting me when I come home from work? and maybe occasionally running INTO my house? OR his barking, whining...and mourning his freedom he USE to have!?

Happy 10th Anniversary...

Yup it's NOT only April Fools...BUT also the 10th anniversary of Nunavut being created! It was 'buisness' as usual at work... some year end and new year stuff to do...but that was kind of fun and exciting!!! :)

Tonight I went up to the high school to see a 'performance' for the community that they were having...it was fun to get out and see 'more' of the community! I went with my neighbours...on the skidoo...(so that was exciting...it's like the first time in like 5 years I've been on a snowmachine---Amanda..the last time was at your sister and bro-in-laws at Christmas)...so that was kind of fun....I need to find a friend that will take me OUT on the land...bc that would be way! So overall it was a pretty night, I didn't take that many photos and the ones I did take weren't that great---I took my small digital...and regretted that decision...but I learned for next time!!!

In other news, I've been feeling a bit 'off'...not sure if it's the 'bug' that's travelling around town...or me adjusting to the water..or a bit of both! But I do know that I slept last night for like 12 1/2 hours.. After work about 5:30 I decided to lie down for a short nap...before i even ate dinner! I sort of woke up enough to FREAK myself out at midnight, didn't know WHERE I was, WHAT day it was, IF I had to be somewhere---kind of freak out! So that being said after that...(i think it lasted about a minute...) I rolled over and next woke up at 6am... and dragged myself out of bed at 7am.. and made eggs and toast for breakfast...(it was sooooooo good!!) So that's my story and I'm sticking to it!!! Although after that much sleep here I am at 11:30pm wide awake...

That's the news from the north today....OH tomorrow I'll post how much the FOOD was... there were many entries..some emailed to me... so I'll try to post them, and then let you know who was the closest!! someone did come within a few cents of it tho!!

A walk on the ice....

Home sweet home!!! I am loving life in the arctic...but let's be realistic.. I still am in the honeymoon phase! We'll see what happens over the next 10months!

Today I had 2 social outtings...(wow I know...) I got a call at 10am... from my neighbour inviting me for brunch---mmmmm homemade waffles, bacon and eggs...(complete with whip cream--can it get any better?)...there was another family there as well... and 2 new borns to cuddle and hold, as well as a fun toddler to play with... it was a great morning, great food and great conversation!

I got home and was going to start to watch a movie...... but then got a call from my friend Beckie... wondering if I wanted to go for a walk on the ice with her and her dogs! I was all for that...(getting out in the sunshine!) I met her at her place and we headed to the ice!
the following are some snaps from the ice....it was such a gorgeous sunny day--although not being as 'physically' active since I broke my toe...well that has left me feeling a tad out of shape..but I figure if i walk every day.. or at least every other day...then I'll get back into shape I suppose.....
Posing it up in the nice parka.. that really is toooooo hot...but I'm sure I'll love it come December!! But am thinking of getting someone here to make me one--they are so colourful and pretty!!!!
A photo of my friend Beckie.....we were wondering where the heck the dogs had gotten to!
The Dogs checking out the water on top of the ice... they had SOOO much energy...but really are great dogs!!! (although I wouldn't want to be holding their leash!!!)
This is MY end of town...I live on the OTHER side of the bridge (where the 'fewer' houses are)...I must admit I have the best view!!!
When there's a high tide (once a month) even in the winter the water breaks through some of the cracks and floods the ice...which leaves really fun sparkling water that's a cool turquoisey colour....although it doesn't quite look like that in the photos!
This is the far edge of town....(not the side I live on)......

Have to luv walking with the sunshine in your face...coming back home was a bit more frosty and cold!! All in all it was a great 3 hour hike!!! I can see myself out there x-country skiing....well maybe not quite yet....but perhaps....;)

Ok...Lurkers... this is for YOU!

Friday I went to the grocery store...(called the Northern) and bought what was in the photo....
your mission if you choose to accept it is.... COMMENT about how much you think the TOTAL for these purchases was....

*bag of stir fry veggies...(2.5kgs)....
*4 bottles of pop...(375ml)
*one SMALL bag of baby carrots
*3 chicken thighs...
*4 tomatoes...
*1 packet of Knorr Garden Veg soup mix

....the one that gets the closest well we'll see what happens!!! Good LUCK... oh ya... it was less than $100 that's the ONLY hint I'll give you....

PS. a lurker is someone that reads a blog but never comments or lets the author KNOW that they are reading it!!! I've been told from various sources that people are reading this...BUT I'm still kind of not sure... so thought that this would be a fun way to find out!
