the life of a Sled Dog....

...the sled dogs in town are kept tied down at the pack ice.... (don't worry they are taken care of, fed and watered....) they are just 'working' dogs... and that's just life for them!!

While on the ice.... we saw these sled dogs; they are being trained to run straight....hence the snow machine in the front... but it was pretty neat to see them out and running!!!
..the Katomiks are a lot bigger than I remembered from the sled dog races in Minden!! I guess things are 'bigger and better' in the Arctic....

...off to the races!!!! :)

Ice Crystals.....

...there was something about the way that sun hit the ice, (which i could have skated on!) and the crystals that were formed on it that just had me shooting and shooting images... the following are a few of my favs....

..its hard to put these into perspective; but they were about the size of a toonie, or a bit bigger...but definitely not HUGE!!!

..Did Jack Frost also leave these on the ice? hmmmmmm I don't know if he has more buisness than window glass!!!

Picnic on the ice...

Pangnirtung, it's hard to see the buildings but they are there!!!

On the ice....we stopped a few times on the trip out.
Two snow machines, 2 Kamotiks 5 adults, 3 kidlets and one dog!!!

I had a little companion in the Kamatik...She's a cutie!!!
We padded the back of the Kamatik with my couch cushions--put them in garbage bags, and it was a padded but bumpy ride!!!

..Taken on the move... turned out quite well!!!

..setting up our picnic site... Jen and Amy have the babies in their 'amautiq' which is a special parka that women wear. There's extra room sewn into the back to be able to fit babies and toddlers!! It's a great way to keep your baby warm, they are back to back in the parka!

I had a lot of fun taking shots, You'll see some more as the days go by...I've set up some 'automatic' postings of more photos from this trip!!!

The pack ice is sooooooo awesome; and breath taking.... This is me at the top of the 'little' hill Ryan and I climbed!

Still not at the highest point! (but at the top of our hill!)

Looking back at Pangnirtung.

The spot you see on the ice is the snowmachines and tent we set up for the picnic!!
..it was so quiet and peaceful..

Hope you enjoyed looking at these as much as I enjoyed taking them!!!
(I was out for 5 hours or so..and took over 180 photos!!!) I'm so loving my new camera!!

A walk on the ice....

Home sweet home!!! I am loving life in the arctic...but let's be realistic.. I still am in the honeymoon phase! We'll see what happens over the next 10months!

Today I had 2 social outtings...(wow I know...) I got a call at 10am... from my neighbour inviting me for brunch---mmmmm homemade waffles, bacon and eggs...(complete with whip cream--can it get any better?)...there was another family there as well... and 2 new borns to cuddle and hold, as well as a fun toddler to play with... it was a great morning, great food and great conversation!

I got home and was going to start to watch a movie...... but then got a call from my friend Beckie... wondering if I wanted to go for a walk on the ice with her and her dogs! I was all for that...(getting out in the sunshine!) I met her at her place and we headed to the ice!
the following are some snaps from the ice....it was such a gorgeous sunny day--although not being as 'physically' active since I broke my toe...well that has left me feeling a tad out of shape..but I figure if i walk every day.. or at least every other day...then I'll get back into shape I suppose.....
Posing it up in the nice parka.. that really is toooooo hot...but I'm sure I'll love it come December!! But am thinking of getting someone here to make me one--they are so colourful and pretty!!!!
A photo of my friend Beckie.....we were wondering where the heck the dogs had gotten to!
The Dogs checking out the water on top of the ice... they had SOOO much energy...but really are great dogs!!! (although I wouldn't want to be holding their leash!!!)
This is MY end of town...I live on the OTHER side of the bridge (where the 'fewer' houses are)...I must admit I have the best view!!!
When there's a high tide (once a month) even in the winter the water breaks through some of the cracks and floods the ice...which leaves really fun sparkling water that's a cool turquoisey colour....although it doesn't quite look like that in the photos!
This is the far edge of town....(not the side I live on)......

Have to luv walking with the sunshine in your face...coming back home was a bit more frosty and cold!! All in all it was a great 3 hour hike!!! I can see myself out there x-country skiing....well maybe not quite yet....but perhaps....;)
