A Lady had made Bannok(traditional bread that sometimes is deep fried--soooo YUMMY)...and on the outside of her box she made this wonderful sign... made me giggle.... (i WISH it was fat free....)
A look of the Bannok inside........... it went FAST! I'm glad I got a piece of that goodness!!!

So I was able to eat some 'country' food...I had some Seal--raw--SOOOO GOOD (I'm serious!!!) reminded me of oysters...but also the texture of some sushi I've had... but it was yummy, I also had some duck egg(hard boiled) it was really 'rich and creamy' compared to chicken eggs....Below is a photo of me eating some duck that was boiled up in a pot! (it tasted yummy too... I know I look like i don't like it...but I was squinting bc of the sun...!)
after the food there was a few more games... another dice game...(this time you rolled two die and if you got a 'double' you were OUT...i lasted quite some time in that round) and the other game involved putting a golf ball into the hole...(YES golf is a game that is EVEN here.. i'll do a post about that sometime!!!)
So there you have it... that was my Canada Day in the Arctic---it was AMAZING day.. I met some fun people.. and had a great day!! (hope yours was as good as mine!!)

One of the games we played was a 'dice' game... all the women went in a BIG circle, and the men went in a circle of their own.... and then you took turns rolling this BIG wooden die---if you rolled a 1 you were out.... (i was out after the first roll!)....At the end the winner gets a cash prize.... (below is my friend Jen--who's up here doing research for her Masters...rolling)
Sadly I don't have a photo of the 2nd game... a water balloon toss (teams had to be one male, one female)...it was just toooooo cold for me to think about the possiblity of getting wet!!!
There are quite a few puppies here in town.... this one was in the back of a truck...VERY CUTE and cuddly....it's too bad they have to grow into such BIG dogs!!
The celebrations all started out by the RCMP office... the Hamlet gave out tatoos, flags and some other Canada stuff!!! Then, while the flag was being raised...the whole community sang O Canada.....
Then there was a 'candy toss'...from the roof of the church! Everyone took part from Elders to Toddlers...nothing like candy flying through the air!!!!
Next was the parade...lots of people had decorated their cars, trucks and ATVs.. with balloons and flags....one of the fire pumping trucks (i think) led off the parade.. then the 2 RCMP trucks... and then well EVERYONE in town with a vehicle! (I knew that this is what happens...so convinced my friend Jen to jump in the back of a co-worker's truck...) yep... I was part of a parade=total fun!!!
So the parade route went through all of town.... and it was a ton of fun... I kept standing up to take photos---it totally reminded me of riding the subway and not holding onto anything but just standing... (man i miss that feeling!)...so that was fun!!!
...did i just say 'fun' 2 times in that last blurb between photos? yes, yes i did.....
Yup... I was dressed for Canada Day a pony tail with a 'flag' in it... and my 'red' Canada Day gloves!!! :) so stylish.. and HOT! (but it was really really windy...and not that hot at all!!!)
