..Crater Lake....

Crater Lake (Aqulutaqrusiq) - This beautiful, circular, greenish-blue lake is perched on the west side of the Weasel River, approximately 5 km southwest of the Windy Emergency Shelter. From the main trail, it is hidden by a circular ridge of gravel and sand which surrounds it. This ridge is the end moraine of the glacier above the lake. It marks the limit of the glacier's last advance, which occurred about 100 years ago. Now that the glacier has melted back, the moraine acts as a natural dam, collecting sediment-laden meltwaters from the glacier. To view the lake, climb from the main trail to a higher elevation. (info taken from the http://www.pc.gc.ca/pn-np/nu/auyuittuq/natcul/natcul5_E.asp)
..when we first arrived..it was pretty foggy/snow blowing/white misty out... and that was a bit of a disapointment BUT by the time we left it had lifted some; and it was still spectacular in this kind of 'romantic' state!
..walking across Crater Lake to get to the Glacier!

getting closer!! :)

...yep that's me standing at the base of the glacier..... :) the roof of the cave.... I LOVE the colours in glaciers... reminds me of the Franz Josef in New Zealand----I'm glad that some of the colour was captured!!...peek-a-boo....in the cave...it kind of scared me.. but at the same point i was in there for the photo---and then got OUT!!! (and i slide down another spot....)
...oops! I slide down this crazy ice slide...(into the bottom of the glacier cave...) but thanks to one of our guides...I was helped out--in style.OUT of the glacier cave....
...one of the moraine--sides that holds crater lake.... A Moraines - ridges or mounds formed by rock debris that were transported by moving ice and deposited at the margins of glaciers. End moraines show the farthest point of a glacier's advance, while lateral moraines show the location of the glacier's sides. (thanks to the same site I've been quoting on this blog!)

just as we were leaving the sun blew off the cloud/mist.. and blue skies started to come out....

..these boots were MADE for walking ;) (not so well on ice tho!)

The ice just looked soooo amazing.. the photo still didn't quite capture it!!! but made walking a bit tricky!

---extremely happy but messy hair---excited to be out exploring....
